Why Chihuahuas?

Back when I lived in a tiny "corn and beans" town (population 2250) in the heartland of the United States, I worked as a veterinary assistant at a small country vet clinic, managed a small family-run video store, and went to college part-time. I have always loved dogs and had many growing up, so when I turned 19, I decided I wanted a dog of my own.

Early on, I realized that my preference of a large dog would not be realistic given my time schedule and living arrangements. I had never owned a small dog before, but my boss at the clinic had a chihuahua named Daisy that I absolutely adored. After thinking about it, I decided that a small dog would be very travel-convenient and could go with me to work (gotta love small town businesses!), hence giving me more time with my pet AND satisfying/socializing my pet with little effort.

I did some research on a few breeds (completely disregarded ALL terriers, just not the temperament for me!) and called upon my few years of experience of working with small dogs at work before I narrowed my list down to a chihuahua or a Pomeranian. In the end, I decided that I would rather have a short-coat dog and figured if I was going to go small, then I ought to go for the smallest breed there is (although I have seen some very tiny Pom-poms).

My Chihuahuas
Both of my chihuahuas are small in size. Their litter mates (2 siblings each) were of similar sizes. Ichabod is the about the same size as his parents while Pippa is slightly smaller than her parents. Ichabod's parents were both black and tan, his mother had a short coat while his father had a long coat. Pippa's parent's were both short coats, her mother was fawn colored while her father was black and tan. Pippa is a special girl, with a rarer color- blue. I have my fingers crossed that we may end up with a blue puppy or two.

I am breeding my chihuahuas as a hobby, to enjoy their puppies, and let my girl have the experience of motherhood. Both of my chihuahuas have wonderful dispositions that I hope will pass on to their puppies, and will in turn make wonderful companions. At the moment, I am planning on one litter of puppies. If things go smoothly with no problems, I may consider a future litter. I am adamant that my chihuahuas ARE MY KIDS, and will only allow their pups go to someone who will cherish them for the treasures they are.
